Choosing A Venue For Photography And Videography

Posted by admin on December 3, 2011

Lighting is one of the most important and challenging aspects of photography and videography.  It can determine how much creative room a photographer or a videographer has to produce ideal and artistic images.  When choosing a venue and time for your event, you may want to take how much light will be available for your photographer and/or videographer because no matter the quality of equipment they use, in general, the more light, the better.

Have you ever taken a photo with your cellphone at night and came out with cool, streaky images?  Have you noticed that this happens less or not at all if you took a picture outdoors and in broad daylight?  This same thing happens even with professional photographers.  The only difference is that they can compensate, to a degree, depending again on the lighting conditions, or not to add some artistic flair to your photographs.  One of the ways photographers compensate is through the use of flash photography.  One of the drawbacks of flash photography, besides blinding you in the eye, is that it has limited range.  So if you prefer to have your photographers be more discrete and unobtrusive in their work, a venue that is brighter will certainly help.

What about video?  Especially with HD cameras, compared to standard definition cameras, adequate lighting is important.  The technology is improving, but generally, if you want less grainy footage, more light would be necessary.  But since many wedding receptions are held in the evening, if your venue's lighting is inadequate, your videographer may compensate by using on-camera lighting or by setting up external lights where most needed.  But like flash, on-camera lighting may be a bit intimidating to some especially when they are being interviewed, and some venues may not be able to accomodate external lighting.

In the end, sentimental value and great memories are what is important.  Definitely choose the venue that you love the most!  But if your heart is torn between two loves, considering a venue with more windows that brighten up the place may help you decide on where to hold your special day.
